"Design Connecting People, Cities, and the Future: Focusing on Seoul’s Design Policies"

The Seoul Metropolitan Government has implemented “people-centered design” that citizens can tangibly experience in their daily lives, and “creative design” that enhances the city’s attractiveness and global competitiveness.

Looking ahead, it aims to advance toward “future-oriented design,” opening new pathways to address the pressing global challenges of climate change, digital transformation, and shifting lifestyles.

This presentation, under the theme of “Design Connecting People, Cities, and the Future,” will focus on how design has evolved into a core instrument linking individuals, urban environments, and the future.

First, welfare design that carefully safeguards citizens’ daily lives and public safety,

Second, competitive design that fosters urban creativity and drives industrial innovation,

Third, future-oriented design that strengthens investment and sustainability for generations to come.

This presentatioㅇ will share concrete cases from Seoul, structured around these three key dimensions.

Inkyu Choi, Director-General of the Seoul Design Policy Bureau of Seoul Metropolitan Government, oversees the city’s design policies under the vision of “Design Seoul,” shaping the future of the city.

“Design Seoul” carries forward the philosophy of Soft Seoul, which emphasizes people, culture, and content, while advancing to establish an urban identity that aligns with global standards.

Its goal is not merely external beauty, but to elevate Seoul into one of the world’s Top 5 design cities that capture global attention.

Seoul is pursuing meticulous and inclusive design administration that breathes vitality into every corner of the city, while ensuring that no citizen is left behind.
