SDIF 2024 Main Event <Reflections on Mr. Criag Kiner's Speech>
Hello, I’m enak1_, a 2nd-term supporter of the 2024 Seoul Design International Forum.
I had the opportunity to attend the 2024 Seoul Design International Forum held at DDP Art Hall 2!
This year’s forum was filled with incredibly insightful programs, and among them, I found the presentation “Dongdaemun Design Plaza, Fashion and Future” by Craig Kiner, Principal at Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) particularly inspiring.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of DDP (Dongdaemun Design Plaza), designed by the late Zaha Hadid and the ZHA team. DDP stands as a landmark of Seoul, featuring a futuristic curved design located at the heart of the city.
DDP was constructed to commemorate Seoul’s selection as the World Design Capital in 2010, challenging conventional architectural norms from its initial design phase.
Its innovative design not only created a visually striking structure but also transformed the urban space into a hub for cultural exchange by offering unique experiences to the public.
During his presentation, Mr. Kiner emphasized how ZHA’s projects demonstrate that design can positively influence culture and cities, enabling citizens to enjoy life through urban architectural design.
Listening to Craig Kiner’s presentation helped me realize the cultural significance of DDP, beyond just being an iconic building.
I gained a deeper understanding of the vision behind its landmark design and how it has become a meaningful space with cultural value.
I’m already looking forward to next year’s Seoul Design International Forum, excited to see how Seoul's future urban development will unfold and continue to evolve!
