Citizen paintings transformed into moving media art, Gwanghwamun Square Hatchyard Media Wall exhibition

The Seoul Design Policy Office Press Release has obtained written consent from the speaker to publish the summarized and edited content

From 1 July, a 53-metre-long media wall located on the ramp in front of the statue of King Sejong the Great in Gwanghwamun Square will showcase unique media art exhibitions created through citizen participation.

The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that the Hatchyard Media Wall in Gwanghwamun Plaza will host the second media art exhibition of 2024, consisting of a citizen idea content competition and a permanent exhibition of Hatch and Soul Friends. The exhibition will be open for viewing from 08:00 to 22:00 daily for three months from 1 July to 30 September.

The Citizen's Idea Content Competition will feature 2D animations, 3D graphics, and other content created by 18 citizens (teams) who have expressed their individuality.

Following the spring exhibition, the exhibition will continue with seasonal content featuring the newly revamped Seoul characters Hatch and Soul Friends. ‘Summer Together’ and ‘Hidden Hatch in Summer’ will also feature citizen-participation events to add to the fun of the exhibition.

There will also be a satisfaction survey event for citizens who have visited the exhibitions. Those who participate in the survey through a link posted on Media Arts Seoul's Instagram account will receive a gift certificate through a lottery.

‘I think this exhibition is a meaningful initiative that stands out for its citizens‘ participation and creativity,’ said Choi In-gyu, Seoul's design policy officer. ‘I hope it will be an opportunity for everyone to feel that media art is an art of light that can be approached in a friendly way.’
