[2023 Seoul International Design Forum] Visited the 'Yes! Kids Zone' Designed by the Seoul Metropolitan Government and Experienced Public Design!

Hello!

I'm the 2023 Seoul Design International Forum Supporters Cho Jung-In.

Everyone, are you familiar with the "Seoul Design International Forum"?

I'm sure there are a lot of people who are unfamiliar with it, so let's find out with me!

First of all, to understand the Seoul International Forum on Design, I think it would be better to understand 'public design' first,

Public design refers to the rational decoration of various devices in public places, and its purpose is to improve the city's landscape and enhance citizens' convenience and safety.

In the past, public design was sufficient to serve as an infrastructure to support the basic functions of the city, but now social values and their meanings have become very important.

In line with the changing meaning of public design, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced Design Seoul 2.0 last June!

Seoul City sets five design principles of empathy, inclusion, contribution, recovery, and sustainability to establish a global standard design identity for Seoul.

In addition, Seoul Design Policy Officer Choi In-gyu said, "We will pursue a meticulous design administration so that Seoul is vibrant everywhere without leaving anyone out."

Seoul City hosts the Seoul Design International Forum every year with a different theme to share with citizens how Seoul is being spotlighted today and what policies are in place to improve the quality of life of citizens, and to discuss with various speakers.

The Seoul Design International Forum is composed of various sessions, and each session features lectures and discussions by experts on the topic.

The 2023 Seoul Design International Forum was held on September 14, 2023, with the theme of "Humanizing Cities: Human. Design. City." The forum featured presentations by world-renowned designers and architects, including Thomas Heatherwick, Shigeru Ban, and Meejin Yoon.

The Significance of the Seoul Design International Forum

1. To improve the lives of citizens and explore future development directions by sharing excellent policies, success stories, and know-how.

2. To acquire the latest trends and information in the field of design through presentations of excellent cases from Korea and abroad and discussions for future business promotion.

3. To strengthen the professionalism and capabilities of design through lectures and discussions by world-renowned experts.

4. To collect and reflect the opinions of citizens on design policies by sharing with citizens and discussing future directions.

I visited the "Yes! Kids Zone" designed by Seoul City and experienced public design firsthand!

Yes! Kids Zone is a space designed to address the growing problems of obesity, depression, and lethargy among adolescents who have limited opportunities for physical activity due to their academic-oriented lifestyle.

Yes! Kids Zone is located in Hanti Park and the surrounding school routes, and is located right in front of the Daechi Police Station.

Address: Daechi Police Station, 203 Samsung-ro, Gangnam-gu, Seoul

Yes! Kids Zone has proved its value by winning the 3rd place design value award from the Design Management Institute in the United States.

The advantages of Yes! Kids Zone can be explained in the following five points:

1. Seven types of physical activity-inducing play equipment:

Guide map / Slackline / Single-leg cave / Space gravity jump platform / Bumpy climb / Sea sound horn

2. Story immersion and imagination stimulation: Colorful floor graphics and 100 signage to encourage play

3. Safe design: Facilities certified for children's playground safety, rubber floor instead of asphalt

4. Gamification to increase engagement: 'Yellow Epic' mobile app

Yellow Epic, a mobile app for Yes! Kids Zone: A game that collects yellow energy scattered in five countries and finds hidden treasures

- Earn rewards by completing physical activity missions based on the concept of exploring five countries.

- The process of completing missions promotes a sense of accomplishment, self-efficacy, physical health, emotional well-being, natural communication between peers, and increased social skills for children.

5. Design for everyone: Even if you don't download the app, you can easily experience the physical activity experience by reading the explanation of the physical activity experience for each facility.

Regarding the "Yes! Kids Zone," Seoul Metropolitan Government Design Policy Officer Choi In-gyu said, "It will be an opportunity to solve the physical and emotional problems caused by the lack of physical activity among adolescents, which is becoming a social problem, including obesity." He also mentioned that "we will continue to expand lifestyle design to help people live healthy and stable lives throughout their life stages, from infants to adolescents to the elderly."

Then, shall we officially enjoy the Yes Kids Zone using the "Yellow Epic" app?

First, let's open the 'Yellow Epic' app!

The Marine Country Day 1 is divided into a total of 4 stages.

Let's go find the QR code 15 first, shall we?

I found QR 15 at the park entrance!

You can easily find it by comparing the number below the QR code to the number on the map in the 'Yellow Epic' app.

The first mission is a stretching mission called "Running in Place."

You can get a mission success reward of 100 points if you run in place for 60 seconds.

After successfully completing the first mission, I went to find the second mission.

The second mission is a quiz mission with initials. What is ㅁㅈㄹㅎㅎ? I was surprised to see the terms "South America" and "Strait," but there was a big hint in the last sentence. The answer is... a secret!

The third mission was a bit far from the second mission location. I walked hard to find the QR code near the Daechi Palace sculpture, but...

I couldn't see it no matter how hard I looked!!

As it turned out, the QR code was attached to a street lamp, but I was walking around the apartment corner to corner. ..ㅎㅎ

Exercise is done naturally~

After sweating and sweating, the third mission I finally found after a series of twists and turns is "Dice Matching"!!

If you shake your phone with all your might, the dice will roll around.

If dice with the same eyes come out, the mission is a success!

Finally, the last mission of the Marine Country 1st day!

The last mission is "Stretching - Standing Knee Raise"!

If you stretch hard to complete the mission,

you will complete Stage 1: Marine Country 1st Day Mission and earn 550 points!

The map of the Marine Country 2nd day has opened!

The 2nd day is a schedule to travel to a new alley.

Today, we learned about the Seoul Design International Forum and experienced "Yes! Kids Zone" using yellow Epic.

How was your adventure with me?

While experiencing the 'Yes! Kids Zone' in Hanty Neighborhood Park, I think I thought a lot about it as an ideal public design that can naturally solve the obesity problem without the reluctance of teenagers :)
